2lb in two days, mmmm
March 31, 2009
Well I am standing on my scales looking at the result and it looks back at me and I smile. I am now 18st 2lb. Considering 3 Mondays back (16 days ago) I was looking at those self same scales and it read 19st 2lb I think that that is an achievement. Now all I need to do is try to shake off the last 2lb and I will be a very happy person.
However I still have concerns. From Thursday Night to Monday evening I will not be near a swimming pool or gym. Also I will pretty much not be able to control every last aspect of my diet during that time and I really do not want to put the weight back on, especially after the last 2 1/2 weeks. then when I do come back it is the Easter holidays and my access to the gym and swimming pool will be awkward to say the least.
In a perfect world I will still lose weight and I have nothing to worry about but reality is far from perfect. So I will do what I can, the best way I can and pray to my pagan dieties that I get through the weekend slightly lighter on the scales.

I love ‘Active Swansea’
March 29, 2009
Yes you heard it right. I actually like something that the local government did in Swansea. They have a programme called ‘Active Swansea’ which is just a renaming of ‘Activa’. However the real strength of it is he whole Direct Debit programme. For just £14.50 a month you can have essentially unlimited access to gym, pool, tennis and exercise classes within the Swansea area (If you have a passport to leisure). However the deal sweetens even more with the Active Duo and Active Family Direct Debit schemes. Essentially for £35 a month me, Gaynor , Ieuan, Alex and Carys can now use the leisure facilities run by Swansea Council as often as we want. This is wonderful as I am as tight as they can come, and once I have spent my money I will be damned sure to get my penny’s worth. So once I get Alex and Carys on the Passport to Leisure I will be upping my Active Duo to an Active Family and taking the kids swimming every week, if not more often, and Alex (bless his cotton socks) can use the gym too, wah ha ha……
G man here, Super fit and super fine
P.S. Weight Update 18 stone 3.5lb
milestones revisited
March 26, 2009
After writing the last post on my weight issues I decided to look back over some of my older posts concerning my weight. It was interesting to see how I looked forward to certain milestones and achievements and the pride i felt when I had got to these goals. However after putting on soe of the weight over the last few months it seems that i have lost sight of some of these milestones, some of them still exist, however some of them I let slip, but hey I get to do them again…..
So today my milestone was once again passing through the 100lb lost since I started this diet. The next milestone which should be witin the next few days (please) will be passing into the realm of the 17st guy again.
Here’s to seeing him soon.
On another note I have been studying my weight loss intently over the last few days to see where the patterns are. At present due to the high level of physical activity I am undertaking I am losing about 1lb every day, which is good for me, but I know and understand that I will not be able to keep this level up for too long and will probably have to give it a rest soon, or at least just slow it down a bit.
Still, it is really nice to say that I swim a mile every morning, row a further 3 kms, jog another mile and cycle 3 more km. and then I save the planet from nucleaur destruction and eat 3 shredded wheat
Hah ha
Luv ya all

March 24, 2009
As some of you may know on Sunday I swam the golden mile and I did a repeat performance yesterday too. I am of course really amazed that I did it and want to shout from the proverbial rooftops. However there seems to be nothing to report on the weight loss front.
When I last weighed in it was the day before my brother Mark’s ‘Stag Meal’, and I weighed 18st 9.9lb. By the Mondy morning after a lot of eating and drinking I was back up at 19st 2lb. So I obviously had my work cut out. By yesterday I was down to 18st 9lb. Then I ate too much yesterday (partly my fault I will admit). So today I need to become even stricter with the intake of food. I think little but often is the key phrase I will be looking for from now on.
The joker in the pack however is my increase in muscle mass. obviously working out an hour in the gym and an hour in the pool 5-6 times a week is going to change the percentages of fat to muscle of my body and I have no real way to work that out. Maybe I should get one of those body fat monitors or at least use one on a regular basis (in Tescos). Or maybe I neeed to start taking size measurements and monitoring them instead (and no I am not telling you how big that one is lol)……
So see you all around my precious fans

getting faster and faster
March 19, 2009
In the pool today after another hour in the gym and I was amazed at how much improvement there has been in just the last four days.
I was tempted to do the 64 lengths today but the pool become somewhat full of people so it became too awkward to stay in the pool any longer than doing the 50.
Normally i start off with 4 lengths on the trot and then pretty much have 20-30 second breathers every 2 lengths. However today I stormed through the first 10 in one go and increased the general gap after that to having a short breather after every 4 lengths of the pool. I admit I was shattered by the end of it, but there is a strange sort of feeling (adrenalin maybe) that makes you just want to carry on and push for that extra length. Now I know tomorrow I am going to be busy with a lot of things so will be keeping the pool to a very tight 50 lengths. But come Monday I will be looking for that 64 lengths and seeing if I can break right through it.

On a swimgym high
March 18, 2009
3 days in and the going is good (ish). Yesterday it was like agony, literally, as the trainers I was wearing on the jogging machine started rubbing the back of my heel after 10 minutes but I refused to give up and just agravated it further for another 5 minutes and then limped to the pool and Morrisons after. That aside though yesterday was still hard on me. My muscles were still recovering from the effort they had put in on Monday so it really felt that each exercise and each length of the pool was lasting forever.
However today it seemed to fly by, so much so I actually did 50 lengths of penlan pool (not blistering speed granted). I was really amazed about this as the last time I did 50 lengths was in Pontardawe pool when I was a kid, and my uncle Peter and auntie Margaret used to take me, Phillip and Stuart to the pool every week.
I remember Peter challenging me each week to swim more and more lengths and he would reward me with 50p (which was loads then). I remember swimming 50 lengths but in doggy paddle style so not exactly too knackering. However today I did 50 lengths Front Crawl. So Peter where is my 50p?
I just hope all this effort pays off with a slimmer waist and stomach for the wedding.

You’d butter believe it
March 16, 2009
Well ok the title is a bit cheesy to be honest (another dairy pun, OMG).
I started on my herculion task today of gym and swimming 5 times a week. At the moment I am still on a little high and energy levels are also high, I wonder how I will feel by the morning.
Here is a random thought, there you are sitting on a bike / standing on a cross trainer, etc. And after 15 minutes on the machine it rewards you with your calorie output for those 15 minutes (typically 150 calories). However the machine does not have some weight sensor in the seat and therefore does not know how heavy (or light) I am. So here is my thought, How heavy is the perfect person that supposedly does that 15 minutes to get that 150 calorie burn. I would love to meet them. So althought the machines say I did 600 calories in an hour, In actuality it is probably closer to 900 for me being at least 50% heavier that that perfect person.
Bye for now all you perfect people
Luv G
I am going to my brother’s wedding at the beginning of April, so invariably I have t owear a suit (if only it was a rock wedding). This, as always entails the grief ofputting clothes on to see if they fit.
The last 3 to 4 months I think we can all safely say that my diet has become a back seat priority. so back seat I think I now drive a coach. I know what I am like, I have avoided my diet, I have avoided going to the gym, and to be honest for no better reason than I just did not want too face up to the fact that I had put some weight back on.
So on Thursday I went shoppping for a suit, my chest is essentially 50 inch, my waist is between a 42 and a 44 inch (not bad considering I used to be a 54-56 in both).
Anyhows…..I went to Asda, Tesco and Matalan to no avail, trying on all sorts of awful colours also the lenghts on the jackets that did fit varied from middling bad to OK corral Burt Lancaster design (jacket almost brushing my knees). So after a somwhat disheartening ordeal I had to do it all again on Friday when I went looking around Swansea. After traversing several places I managed to locate a suit with a small subtle lilac pin strip. The chest was 48 and the trousers were 42, and they both fitted, I could not believe it (Sorry Victor Meldrew). I snapped up the suit after some drastic fashion education from Gaynor and then proceeded to look for a shirt and tie to make it even more fun, lol.
Now for the catch, they fit, JUST. It will not be mission impossible to wear the suit, BUT it would certainly increase my pleasure in wearing it and the survivability of the suit if between now and the wedding I were to lose some weight.
Which brings me back to my diet, smacking my in the face after running away from it for so long. There is no getting away from it, I need to lose weight.
So I weighted myself, knowing that it would not be a pleasant experience and here are the results
18 stone 9.9lb
That is an increase of almost 12lb (and to be honest it has been fluctuating from this to almost 19 stone 4 on a regular basis).
So my mission is to go berserk and lose a load of weight with the very real target of my brother’s wedding looming over me. Three weeks today I will be waking up in some Glasgow hotel looking at my suit and either smiling or crying. ts now up to me.
My target is to get below 18 stone again (Realistic) however I would really like to lose a full stone in the coming 3 weeks (I have done it before now) which would then put me lower that I have ever been. Lets see what I can do.
This is the great G signing out
Love you all
