Boffing madness

June 13, 2009

My long time school/life time friend Oz sent me a link to a sport/activity called boffing.  I have since researched it and it reminded me of my LARP days (running around Margam Park as a barbarian dwarf with a beefy quarterstaff).  So it seems that Boffing is a spin off from several other activities, but has become something separate and fun in its own right.

So I went to B&Q and came home with the materials to make a few basic weapons, the result of which is below

The kids seem to like them and too be honest I quite enjoy the chance of therapy, hitting kids in a safe and controlled way, lol.

I first made two simple generic boffer swords, although I latter added a hand guard to one of them, I then made a generic dagger out of the scrap bits, of course I then rushed back to B&Q to get more materials and have since made a 6ft quarterstaff (pugel stick) which has always been my weapon of choice.

I am seriously thinking of using these boffer weapons in youth club on Tuesday and see how well it can be controlled as a fun activity.

There seems to be nothing quite like it in Swansea on initial investigation but I will look further into it, however, I can see me creating a group in the eastside of Swansea if there is not one, as this can be a fun way to get fit and socialise too, and never forget the therapy……

As you can see they are still black and tabby is doing a good job of being a mammy.  One of the little angels had little white socks and a white V on its chest.  the other one is all black (and tends to sleep a lot)

Well today I went and bought a cheap tesco value patio set (which nearly broke my bank account).  Obviously I had to try it out as soon as I got it home, and then, just as obviously the cats had to give it their inspection.  I think it passed…….

Here are some photos of the action

Phoebe pretending not to notice the patio set

Tabby is giving me the once over, seeing if I pass the inspection, then its on with the patio set

As you can see they were very diligent in their examination

Well Saturday night just gone (June 9th) I and Ieuan were invited to a BBQ on Kilvey hill to celebrate both my friend Jan’s birthday and that of her daughter Jess.

the night started wtih me arriving at jan’s house after paying a quick visit to Morrisons for some basic supplies. Then a convoy of bags progressed from Jan’s house to the boot of my car, each bag bring the wheel arches closer to the ground. Once everything was onboard I drove up to the top of Buckingham (all of 60 yards away) and we then proceeded to unload the great feast from the back of the car. Then, heavily laden the baggage carrying troupe progressed up the hill towards the site of the soon to be BBQ feast.

Overall it was a really good night with me spending some quality time with Ieuan, teaching him about camp fires and how certain branches burn in different ways, and how to snap branches too. We also burnt as much of the waste paper and cardboard as possible, carrying the rest of the rubbish back down the hill with us. Below are some photos of the night.

A family wedding

June 12, 2007

I know its a bit late but I thought I would write some stuff on this blog about my cousins wedding which was on May 25th, and even show some pictures. One of my earliest memories of Rachel is dropping her on her head amd also (not the same day) jamming her fingers in a car window. Now she is a full grown woman, married and living far away in Maesteg land. Strange how sometimes life just whizzes past.

Photos of my altar

March 13, 2007

Below are a series of photos that I took today of my altar. It was sort of a weird moment as I finally finished setting it up to the way that I like it. I hope you all enjoy the photos, I was nearly in tears after setting it up. It has been such a long time since I have done something even slightly shamanic. It now feels the way i wanted it to feel when I am in the front room, peaceful, quiet, even a little bit sacred. I wanted one room in the house where there was no noise, no distractions, a place where you could, at least for a few minutes, get away from the everyday world.

Below is a selection of recent photos of me, three of them were from today. I had fun today cooking loads of welsh cakes with the young people in the youth club. I reckon I cooked twice as many as I actually saw on the plates when I finished so someone must of been eating them.
